1. Bio-Room Cleaning: All the lab members take turns to clean the bio-room (PSBN 2624).

Responsibility includes:

(1) Autoclaving bio-trash (e.g., unneeded agar plates, used bio-consumables, etc.) on Friday afternoon.

(2) Overseeing housekeeping issues in the Bio-Room. If someone doesn’t bleach bacterial cultures or dispose of used ice timely, it is your responsibility to talk to this individual. Let Yang know if there are repeated offenders.

2. Package Receiving:

Responsibility includes coordinating with Trevor and Adrian (Chemistry Storeroom) to pick up chemicals, biochemicals, and consumables.

If temperature-sensitive molecular biology enzymes (e.g., Phusion DNA polymerase, Q5 DNA polymerase, T4 DNA ligase, restriction enzymes and DpnI) are ordered from New England Biolabs (NEB), it is your responsibility to coordinate with Trevor and Adrian to pick up the ice pad timely. UCSB Chemistry Storeroom does not have a -20 C freezer.

If chemicals are received, it is your responsibility to email or talk to your labmates who ordered these chemicals so they could pick them up and store these chemicals appropriately. Some chemical reagents are temperature-sensitive, and they need to be stored in a 4 C or -20 C fridge. Some other chemicals are air-sensitive, and they need to be stored in our glovebox filled with N2.

3. Chemical Ordering:

Responsibility includes ordering chemicals through Gateway everyday by 11 am.

Responsibility also includes ordering solvents for organic synthesis and HPLC analysis. This is less time-sensitive.

4. Key Bio-Consumables Ordering:

Responsibility includes ordering the following consumables:

(1) Pipet tips

(2) 96-Well, deep-well plates

(3) Molecular biology enzymes from NEB

(4) PCR tubes and microcentrifuge tubes (1.5 mL and 2.0 mL)

5. Other Bio-Consumables Ordering:

Responsibility includes ordering all the other bio-consumables, including but not limited to: disposable culture tubes, serological pipets, conical tubes (15 mL and 50 mL), and so on.

6. Chemical-Consumables Ordering:

Responsibility includes ordering test tubes, 20 mL scintillation vials, septa, and other supplies.

7. Gas Cylinder and Liquid Nitrogen Tank Ordering:

Liquid Nitrogen Tank for Synthesis Lab:

Liquid Nitrogen Tank for LCMS:

Gas-Mix (10%H2-90% N2) for Coy Chamber:

Gas Cylinders for GC (Zero Grade Air, Industrial H2 and Industrial N2):

Gas Cylinder for GC-MS (UHP He):

If you order gas cylinders or liquid N2 tanks from Gateway or Chemistry Storeroom, it is your responsibility to pick up these cylinders timely. It is also your responsibility to email Praxair to ensure timely delivery (oxnard_customer_service@praxair.com).

8. Glassware:

Responsibility includes ordering glassware and bringing broken glassware to glassblower Richard Bock for repair.

If a big batch of new glassware is needed, please coordinate with all lab members to finalize a list of glassware.

9. Belt-Drive Vacuum Pumps in Synthesis Lab:

Responsibility includes ensuring all the lab members change their pump oil every 4 months.

8. Normal Phase HPLC:

9. LC-MS:

10. GC-MS:

11. GC:

12. UV-Vis:

13. Biosafety Cabinets:

Responsibility includes ensuring there is no or minimal consumables in the BSC, so the airflow is not obstructed.

14. Centrifuges:

Responsibility includes cleaning the tabletop centrifuge and microcentrifuges every Friday afternoon.

When not in use, the lid of all the centrifuges needs to stay open. This way, condensed water can evaporate.

15. AKTA Start:

16. pH meter:

17. Biotage:

(1) Train new lab members to use Biotage

(2) Order consumables for Biotage

18. Coy Anaerobic Chamber:

19. Website Maintenance:
